How to Set Up MFA

📱 What You’ll Need

Your laptop

Your mobile phone

Compass – How to Log In with MFA

Navigate to Compass

Open your browser and go to the Compass login page.

Select the Microsoft Login Option

Instead of typing your username and password, click the orange “Sign in with Microsoft” button.

(Do not use the standard Username/Password boxes.)

Enter Education Credentials

A new sign-in window will appear:

Enter your Education email address (firstname.lastname@education.vic.gov)

Enter your Education password when prompted.

Step 4 – Verify with MFA

Once a day, you’ll need to confirm your identity with one of the following:

Microsoft Authenticator App on your mobile device

--OR—

Text message code sent to your phone.

Continue with Option 1 (Authenticator App) or Option 2 (SMS/Call).

🔐 Option 1: Set Up with Microsoft Authenticator (Recommended)

Microsoft Authenticator is the most secure and flexible method. It works even when you're out of phone or Wi-Fi range and supports push notifications.

Please follow these steps to install the Microsoft Authenticator App on your mobile device.

Using an Apple Device (iPhone, iPad, etc.):

Scan the QR code Below to be taken to the “Microsoft Authenticator” App on the Apple App Store:

OR you can download and install Microsoft Authenticator from the App Store

Using an Android Device (Samsung, Google Pixel, Nothing Phone, etc.):

Scan the QR code Below to be taken to the “Microsoft Authenticator” App on the Google Play Store:

OR you can download and install Microsoft Authenticator from the Play Store

On your laptop, go to:

https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

Click "+ Add method", then select "Authenticator app" and click Next.

Click through the following prompts:

Once you reach the QR code, leave that window open, then continue on your mobile device.

Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.

In the app, tap Add account, select "Work or school account", then choose "Scan QR code."

Use your phone to scan the QR code displayed on your laptop.

Follow the remaining prompts on both devices to complete the setup.

📞 Option 2: Set Up with Phone (SMS or Call)

This option is simpler but relies on mobile coverage and does not work offline.

Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

Click "Add sign-in method", then select Phone.

Choose Australia (+61), select "Text me a code" or "Call me", and enter your phone number.

Click Next, enter the 6-digit code sent to your phone, and click Next.

Click Done.

Set your Default sign-in method if needed.
